Amanda Gatto and Wade Beswick of Wildes-Spirit Design and Printing were recognized this month in the Club Managers Premier Club Services newsletter, At Your Services. Their literary compositions were reprinted in the April/May 2006 issue.
Amanda Gatto's article Digital Photography and Wade Beswick's article File Preparation for Digital Printing were originally written for Wildes-Spirit’s newsletter, Bottom Line Basic, which is geared toward helping businesses in the Metro area. Both Gatto and Beswick have extensive expertise in each field.
Gatto focused her piece on how the audience can best use their digital photography skills for professional print media. This article is most helpful for the beginner as it covers not only the basic principles of lighting, focusing, and cropping of images, but also explains memory devices, the best type of batteries to use, and proper resolution settings. The article also helps the experienced digital photographer as it reminds them of common sense techniques in order to capture the best pictures possible.
Beswick's article was written to help both designers as well as the end-user of the digital output device. He explains much of the technical terminology in layman’s terms, for those who are new at digital file preparation. The goal of the piece is to reduce the common snags that delay the production of digital printing. The article discusses in detail how to handle the entire preparation of the file, from font collecting, to proper color formatting, to the scanning of art and photographs. And with these steps implemented, file output is sure to be a smooth transition.
